The photographer and trustee Orlando Azevedo, after the realization of the monumental project Heart of Brazil, which resulted in a exhibition with 530 images (in permanent route of presentations and the publication of the collection with three titles - MAN, LAND and MYTH - prepares one more time all the planning to start in 2004 his new challenge: the photographic project PARANÁ EXPEDITION.

PARANÁ EXPEDITION revive na old Orlando Azevedo’s dream, of complementing his large material about the State where he lives since 1963, in a releitura and review of the landscaps and the Parana’s man.

Orlando Azevedo seeks for partnerships that could strengthen his new entrerprise expanding to new horizons of realizations and revealing the truly spirit of the state - Paraná.
The Heart of Brazil Expedition,cultural project that travaled all over the brazilian regions to do a large photographic and jounalistic documentation, inside the new travelers conception, completed its inital cycle with a result that adds a rich, wide and bruising portrait of the cultural and human heritage of the country. In january of 2002, he retakes the roads and highways of Brazil trying to find and disclose the multiplicity and the richness of the country.


The expedition formed by the photographer Orlando Azevedo (conceived and coordinated of the project) and by the journalist Fabiano Camargo, has reached the top of the Neblina’s Peak, higher place of the country 3.014 meters, at April, 26, 2000, three weeks after conquered the Roraima Mount, sealing this way the first step of this project. In this travel started on April, 21, 1999 the project reached the mark of 35 thousand kilometers.


Aproacching the subjects: THE MAN, THE LAND and THE MYTH the expedition traveled in the first cycle, the States of Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Acre, Amazonas and Pará. Always searching for alternatives ways and localities out of the big urban centers routines, in a 4X4 jeep prepared and adapted to face the most difficult soils and offroad routes. Beyond the Neblina’s Peak (Amazonas), th Heart of Brazil Expedition has passed by the Mount Roraima (Roraima), Tranpantaneira Road (Mato Grosso) and the Park’s Road (Mato Grosso do Sul), both crossing the interior of the Pantanal mato-grossense; treads through rubber trees’ florests in Acre (Xapuri region); Guaporé Valley (Rondônia); Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade (Mato Grosso); Madeira River (Rondônia/Amazonas), Amazonas River, Marajó (Pará). Other localities that composes a rich natural and cultural heritageof the country and were visited are Bonito (MS), Chapada dos Guimarães (MT), Chapada dos Parecis (MT), Parintins (AM), Guartela’s Canyon (PR), Prudentópolis (PR), Pampas region (RS), Fortaleza and Itambezinho Canyons (RS), Estrada do Inferno (RS), Mata (RS), Urubici (SC).

In every places where the expedition passed, leaved the mark of its flag as a referency of respect to the cidadania and the integrity of the brazilian people.


NUMBERS that shows the project importance:


In the first stage (from April 1999 to May 2000), the balance was:

• Total of 35 thousand kilometers traveled, including 2.300 km by river and 7.000 by aeroplane.

• 5.333 litres of diesel were consumed.

• More than 300 cities and localities were visited.

• The official site has 700 digital images 50 articles, 225 relatos, result of more than 250 interviews
